Vision & mission

Transforming Maternal Health, Empowering Families

At Thrive Maternal Health Fund, we believe that every mother, regardless of income, background, or birth preference—deserves compassionate, high-quality care. Our mission is to radically improve maternal healthcare in San Diego by expanding access to midwifery services, pioneering the first free-standing Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for maternal mental health, and building sustainable, community-driven solutions that lead to healthier births, stronger families, and thriving communities.

How We Are Creating Lasting Change & Innovative Care Models: We are expanding midwifery-led care beyond birth centers and home births, integrating it within hospital settings to improve maternal outcomes. Through licensed midwife-led postpartum home visits, we help mothers recover safely while hospitals experience higher patient satisfaction, reduced rehospitalization rates, lower medical costs, and improved maternal health outcomes.

Groundbreaking Maternal Mental Health Services: We are launching San Diego’s first free-standing IOP for maternal mental health, ensuring that mothers and babies remain together during treatment. Our whole-body approach goes beyond traditional therapy by incorporating mental health providers, holistic practitioners, and specialists to address root causes such as nutrition, stress, sleep deprivation, and hormonal imbalances—factors too often overlooked in perinatal care.

Equity & Inclusion in Midwifery: We are committed to diversifying the maternal healthcare workforce by providing midwifery scholarships for people of color and partnering with established programs to make these opportunities sustainable. Instead of duplicating efforts, we invest in and collaborate with existing institutions, strengthening the midwifery profession and ensuring every family has access to culturally competent, high-quality care.
Our Impact

Thousands of Mothers Supported, Countless Lives Changed

Impact

Countless Lives Changed

Thrive is reshaping maternal healthcare by ensuring every woman has access to compassionate, high-quality care—regardless of income or background. Since our founding, we’ve supported thousands of families. Directly relieving financial burdens for over 300 women through subsidized midwifery, doula, and maternal mental health services. We’re expanding midwifery access within hospital systems and investing in future midwives, particularly midwives of color, through scholarships and training to build a more diverse, culturally responsive workforce. Over 2,000 mothers and babies have joined our free breastfeeding and new parent groups, fostering vital education and connection. We've also delivered essential resources to Indigenous maternal programs to support improved birth and postpartum outcomes. Our Pregnancy Loss Support Program provides compassionate, individualized care to families navigating miscarriage or stillbirth. Our Breastmilk Connection Program supports parents facing feeding challenges, such as low milk supply, NICU stays, or babies not thriving. By connecting local donors and recipients directly, we offer a no-cost, community-rooted alternative to expensive hospital milk banks, helping families nourish their babies with dignity and support. Together, these efforts are creating healthier outcomes and stronger communities, where women and babies are not only surviving, but thriving.
Focused on Impact

Focused on Impact, Not Overhead

Until now, we’ve intentionally chosen not to invest in a physical space, focusing instead on directing every dollar to the women and families who need it most. With a majority volunteer-driven team, we’ve built a high-impact, community-first model that stretches every resource to support maternal and infant health where it matters most. But to grow our reach, deepen our impact, and sustain this vital work, we know it’s time to build the next layer of support. That includes hiring dedicated staff and establishing a physical location, a welcoming hub for care, connection, and healing. This vision is part of our near future, and with your support, it’s within reach.
Next Chapter

Building a Thriving Hub for Maternal Wellness

Now, we’re ready to take the next step. At the heart of our vision is a physical maternal wellness center—anchored by San Diego’s first free-standing Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for maternal mental health. This transformative hub will offer families access to life-changing programs, clinical care, educational workshops, and comprehensive mental health support in a nurturing, community-driven environment. More than just a facility, it will serve as a model for maternal health innovation and a sustainable blueprint that can be replicated in communities nationwide.

Your Support Can Change the Future of Maternal Health

Every dollar donated to Thrive Maternal Health Fund fuels real, systemic change—lowering cesarean rates, reducing NICU stays, expanding postpartum care, and addressing the maternal mental health crisis through compassionate, community-driven support.

With your help, we’re scaling what works, reaching families who are too often left behind, and building a permanent home for our life-changing programs. The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of any developed country and it's getting worse. Black women are three to five times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes. We’re working to change that by making evidence-based, individualized care the standard for all women, not just those who can afford it.

Thrive is normalizing what other countries with better outcomes already do, by prioritizing midwifery care, postpartum support, and maternal mental health. This industry should not be driven by profit alone. We must set the bar higher than simply delivering a live baby. Women are giving birth to the future and they deserve care that helps them thrive. This is more than a vision—it’s a movement. Join us in reshaping maternal healthcare and bringing equity, dignity, and real support to every mother and family we serve.

Every Dollar Creates a Lifeline

Every contribution to Thrive Maternal Health Fund fuels meaningful, measurable change in the lives of women and families. Whether you choose to give a generous one-time donation or commit to a monthly gift, your support allows us to expand access to midwifery, doula, and maternal mental health care for those who need it most. Monthly giving is a powerful way to create lasting impact.
Just $20 a month—less than the cost of a weekly coffee—helps cover the cost of a postpartum mental health visit, a home check-in with a midwife after a hospital birth, or a pregnancy loss support session. Consistent support like this helps us plan ahead, serve more families, and grow sustainable programs. We welcome gifts of all sizes.
However you choose to give, you are helping build a future where every mother receives compassionate, individualized care without barriers.
